Breather valves from A to Z with Breetec

Breetec has a wide range of standard breather valves and also designs many custom valves tailored to the usage specifications. Breetec manages all aspects of the process in-house, from design and detailed engineering to the actual production. All valves produced by Breetec are tested on a test bench.

Breetec’s breather valves are used around the world by leading companies in industries including the chemicals industry, food, plastics processing, and biogas.

Operations

Pressure relief valves
The weight is forced up once the set pressure is reached. Gas or air escapes into the atmosphere. The pressure in the tank or silo decreases, the weight descends, and the valve closes automatically.

Vacuum relief valves
Work according to the same principle. The weight is forced up by the atmospheric pressure once the set vacuum pressure is reached. Air flows into the silo or tank, the pressure rises, and the valve closes automatically.

Combined pressure and vacuum relief valves
The pressure relief valve is fitted above the vacuum relief valve. The two valves operate in the same way as described here.

Types of breather valves

Breetec is the leading producer of breather valves for silos. Uniquely, Breetec breather valves prevent any solid matter, such as powders and granulates, building up in the valve casing that could be blown upwards when the silo is filled pneumatically. The solid matter always falls back into the silo and the Breetec valve remains clean.
Breetec breather valves for the biogas industry are distinguished by their reliability, frost-resistance, and compliance with all applicable standards. They are the complete solution to some technical problems long faced by the industry. And that ultimately makes them cheaper and safer to use. This is a major step forward compared with the cheaper water-based valves currently in use. Water can evaporate and run off whenever the valve opens.
Breetec’s standard range comprises basic elements that can be combined in a modular fashion. For example, a basic 1411 pressure relief valve can be combined with a 1412R vacuum relief valve to create a 1413R combined pressure and vacuum relief valve. The 1111 series of pressure relief breather valves have a side outlet that enables hazardous or harmful gases to be discharged into a closed system. These models are often fitted to tanks and silos installed indoors. The 1111 series is combined with a vacuum relief valve in the 1412R series to create the type 1113R combined pressure and vacuum relief valve.

Type 1513

The 1513 series of combined pressure and vacuum relief breather valves is mainly used to regulate the pressure in water treatment installations and will activate in the event of both excessively high pressure and excessively low pressure in the tank.

Type 1113R

The 1113R series of combined pressure and vacuum relief breather valves is mainly fitted to tanks and silos and will activate in the event of both excessively high pressure and excessively low pressure in the tank or silo. A feature of this model is the side outlet that enables harmful gases to be discharged into a closed system. That makes the valve ideal for an indoor installation or for water treatment tanks.

Type 1413R

The 1413R series of combined pressure and vacuum relief breather valves is mainly fitted to tanks and silos and will activate in the event of both excessively high pressure and excessively low pressure in the tank or silo. This valve is ideal for an outdoor installation and is used as the standard model on silos.

Type 1412R

The 1412R series of vacuum relief breather valves is mainly fitted to tanks and silos and will activate in the event of excessively low pressure in the tank or silo. A feature of this model of breather valve is the vacuum casing situated right above the flange connection.

Options

Breetec’s standard range comprises six elements that can be fitted in combination for a whole host of possible pressure and vacuum situations. They can be supplied with three options: a bird screen, earthing, and proximity switch. In extreme weather conditions, the breather valves can be fitted with optional insulation and heating.
